Steroids & Chronic Back Pain: Let Us Help You

Steroids and chronic back pain may be just the right solution to help alleviate your back pain while we further determine what the underlying cause is. Steroids are by no means a permanent solution to your back pain, yet they can buy us some  time to further examine the root cause of your back pain and correctly resolve the underlying issue at hand. Read in to learn more about steroids and back pain work together Also learn how Neurosurgery & Spine Consultants can help you overcome even some of the most severe back pain efficiently and effectively.

How Do Steroids & Chronic Back Pain Work Together?

Steroids and chronic back pain work together  via inflammation reduction. Steroid injections allow providers to isolate painful areas of the neck, back, and spine where we can best reduce or even fully eliminate pain in some cases through a targeted approach. Inflammation reduction via steroid injections may allow your body the relief it needs to begin the healing process if you’re recovering from an injury and require relief to begin your physical rehabilitation process.

Commonly Used Steroid Injections to Help Your Chronic Back Pain

Below are some commonly used steroid injections to help combat back pain and have you well on your way towards a healthier and happier self.

ESIs (Epidural Steroid Injections)

Epidural steroid injections are injections typically given in the lumbar/lower back area which help relieve pain caused by inflamed nerves throughout the specified area. ESIs can be used to treat pain, but they can also be used to identify specific nerves which may be contributing or causing your pain. The series of injections typically consists of two to three injections in the lumbar spine. This can help significantly reduce pain and allow you to rebuild strength once again. Allowing your back pain to subside through the action of reducing inflammation via epidural steroid injections may allow your mobility to improve in the lumbar spine region. This process may then allow you to heal quicker and be back on track towards health and wellness once again.

The Limitations of Steroid Injections

Steroid injections are not a fix-all, one-size-fits-all approach to fixing your back pain. Steroid injections can be a great way to identify problem areas, or temporarily reduce or eliminate pain to allow a faster recovery. However, if there’s a deeper, underlying issue at play, we’ll have to determine what’s occurring internally to cause your back pain in the first place. From there, we’ll be able to recommend a series of treatment options to resolve your pain and have you well on your way towards living a happy, pain-free life once again.
