Spine Pain

Why Patients Come to NSC

Patients come to NSC because of our excellent rate of success in relieving acute and chronic pain, either through conservative treatments or surgery. We pride ourselves on being the only freestanding building dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of spine and neuropathic symptoms affecting the patients of San Antonio and South Texas.

Back and neck pain can be experienced as inconvenient, a detractor from one's quality of life, or so severe that it is completely disabling and requires emergency treatment. There are many types of back pain, depending on the region of the spine affected -- cervical, thoracic or lumbar -- as well as on the intensity, frequency, and duration of the pain which may be acute, intermittent, radiating or chronic.   Patients seek the knowledge of our professionals when experiencing:

  • Severe pain that doesn't improve with rest
  • Low back pain that radiates down the leg or even into the foot
  • Weakness, numbness or tingling in one or both legs
  • Limited range of motion, e.g. inability to bend or stretch
  • Stiffness or spasms

Because there are so many potential causes of back and neck pain, it is important that you be diagnosed properly so you can receive the appropriate treatment as quickly as possible. Many conditions can worsen and cause other significant problems if left untreated. In some cases, nerve damage can continue even after surgical intervention.

At NSC we treat a range of spinal conditions; including but not limited to:

  • Cervical radiculopathy
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Herniated disc
  • Lumbar radiculopathy
  • Scoliosis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Spondylolisthesis

When you come to NSC, you can feel confident that one of our experienced neurosurgeons, with extensive training of the spine, will be able to decipher the cause of your suffering.  The compassionate and highly skilled neurosurgeons at the NSC facility will provide you with a diagnostic overview that covers both conservative and surgical options, if necessary. We continually provide up-to-date information to primary care and referring physicians to ensure that the patient’s health care providers are all on the same page concerning the treatment plan.
