Peripheral Nerve

At Neurosurgery and Spine Consultants, we regularly treat peripheral nerve conditions.  We are proud of being the only freestanding building dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of spine and neuropathic symptoms affecting the patients of San Antonio and South Texas.

Peripheral nerve damage can cause problems with everyday activities, especially if your career requires a significant amount of typing, writing or repetitive hand movement.  Symptoms of peripheral nerve damage often include:

  • Numbness, pain or weakness in the hand, wrist or fingers
  • Tingling or “pins and needles” sensation in the hand, wrist or fingers
  • Pain in the arm and wrist
  • Stiff fingers

At NSC we commonly diagnose and treat these symptoms that are often caused from:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Ulnar nerve release

Wherever possible, at NSC we treat your pain using conservative, noninvasive or minimally invasive methods.  Splints and occupational therapy are often ordered as a conservative treatment for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.  However, if the pain persists your doctor may discuss the option of minimally invasive surgery. Our neurosurgeons continually provide up-to-date information to primary care and referring physicians to ensure that the patient’s health care providers are all on the same page regarding the treatment plan. For a full list of the surgeries we are well-equipped to perform, please check the Conditions & Procedures section of our website.
